Power Talk #7
Design from Asia

The presentation focuses on issues that Asia needs to address related to targeting the world market. These include focusing on the development of design, encouraging artisan skills, and establishing brand strategies that communicate the value and charm of products from the perspectives of distribution, design and branding. Guest speakers includes an expert in the field of market distribution from Japan, a furniture designer from the Philippines and a management strategist from India. They will share their expertise, unique experiences, current situation and visions by projecting images for an audience that numbers about 110, comprising students and professionals from the fields of design and education that later participate in a question and answer session.

This program highlights the charm of emerging Asian forms and demonstrated that the countries in Southeast Asia have entered into global markets with products embodying an Asian modernism that can equal Western modernism, while sustaining regional characteristics and local cultures. The occasion will help us ask questions about Asian identities and values.
