Design Museum Collection Exhibition Series Vol.4
Fantastical Futuristic Picture Books of the 30s

The 1930s: It was a decade of dreaming of the future, imagining the universe. Brilliant advances in science and technology quickened people’s imaginations; science was welcomed for its promises for the future. In this exhibit, we present 60 volumes of the magazine Popular Science, unique right down to the graphic design of its covers, as well as its fantastic plans for the near future. Also on display are space- and future-oriented products of the time, like streamlined bicycles, and toy ray guns familiar from popular TV shows.
