She has been working on NGO ads since 1994. Chief editor for "ecocolo," an earth-friendly lifestyle magazine for women. She also plans and supervises the "ecocolo TV" segment for the TV Asahi show "Spaceship Earth." She has won numerous advertisement awards in Japan and overseas, including an award for NOWAR peace coloring cards contained in a newspaper advertisement. Chairman of the cultural movement-Candle Night. In 2005, member of the Campaign Executive Committee for the Global Call to Action against Poverty in Japan.
Ms. Maekita's recent projects include the promotion of the Food Mileage Campaign, Minna de hatsuden (Generate Electricity Together), Respect 3Rs, Biodiversity Observation by One Million People and Daichi wo Mamoru Kai (Protect the Earth). She is also involved in the HIKESHI project, which seeks to prevent war concretely, and the "One Thousand Environmentally Conscious People Running for Election Campaign", a campaign to activate the local assembly.
Her primary written work is "Eco-Shift" (Kodansha Gendai Shinsho.) Assistant professor of Peace & Conflict Studies at Tokyo University of Foreign Studies.
